Hey race fans, welcome back to Driving on Marbles! It’s Saturday morning and we’re heading into one of the most historic race weekends in modern NASCAR history. The Cup Series is about to run a points-paying race at North Wilkesboro Speedway for the first time since 1996. Thirty years. Let that sink in for a second. An entire generation of NASCAR fans have never seen a points race at this track and tomorrow night they finally will.
Let’s get into this week’s picks post.
What Happened at Atlanta Last Weekend
Before we get into the card, let’s talk about what happened at Atlanta last weekend. Ryan Blaney won the Quaker State 400 for his second victory of the season in the superspeedway-style chaos at EchoPark Speedway. Blaney has now finished in the top ten in each of the last eight races which is the longest active streak of any driver in the field. Our main driver Reddick had a solid rebound from the Chicagoland DNF, closing the championship gap to Hamlin from 44 points down to 24. Hamlin finished 12th which was a quiet night by his recent standards. The championship race remains very much alive heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
This Week's Race at North Wilkesboro
Now let’s talk about North Wilkesboro. This is a 0.625-mile short track in the foothills of North Carolina with 14 degrees of banking in the turns and just 3 degrees on the straights. The track has a unique character with an uphill backstretch and a downhill frontstretch that creates a rhythm unlike anything else on the schedule.
The Window World 450 runs 450 laps across 281.25 miles with Stage 1 ending at Lap 80, Stage 2 at Lap 265, and the final stage covering the remaining 185 laps to the checkered flag. Green flag drops at 7:00 PM ET on TNT this Sunday.
While this is the first points race at North Wilkesboro since 1996, the track has hosted the All-Star Race since returning to the Cup calendar in 2023. Those exhibition events were shorter and used different procedures but they’re the only modern data we have.
Christopher Bell won the 2025 All-Star Race here by defeating Joey Logano in the closing laps. Logano won the 2024 event and Kyle Larson won in 2023. Those three drivers are the only active Cup drivers with victories at this specific track in the modern era and that data matters a lot for this week’s card.
Corner entry, rear grip, tire wear, and traffic management are the keys to success at North Wilkesboro. Drivers have to rotate the car without abusing the rear tires especially during long green-flag runs. On a 0.625-mile short track with 450 laps that’s a lot of corner entries and a lot of opportunities for the tires to fall off. The teams that find the right balance between speed and tire conservation in Saturday practice are going to be the ones fighting for the win on Sunday night.
Hamlin and Reddick have both clinched playoff spots already which means the championship pressure is slightly reduced for both drivers this week. Blaney needs 35 more points to clinch. For the rest of the field the points battle is still very much alive and the desperation factor at a track with no previous points data could lead to some genuinely aggressive racing on Sunday night.
Let’s get into the card.
My New Main Pick: Tyler Reddick (2nd in points, 767 pts, 5 wins)
Reddick is our locked-in main driver and North Wilkesboro is an interesting challenge for the No. 45 23XI Racing Toyota.While there’s no previous points race data to draw from, the 23XI Racing organization has been competitive at every track type in 2026 and the short track package has shown genuine improvement throughout the season.
Reddick already has his playoff spot clinched which takes some of the championship pressure off and allows the team to focus entirely on winning the race rather than managing points. His short track racecraft has improved steadily throughout 2026 and the JGR/23XI Toyota alliance gives him strong manufacturer support at a track where JGR has historically been one of the best organizations. At +700 he’s right in the mix with the favorites and the ceiling is absolutely there for a win on Sunday night.
Inside Top 12 Pick No. 1: Denny Hamlin (1st in points, 791 pts, 4 wins)
Hamlin is the race favorite at +320 and there’s a genuinely strong case for why he deserves that status. He’s won four of the last five oval races (Nashville, Michigan, Pocono). His 4.6 average finish on intermediate ovals in 2026 is the best of any driver in the field. He won at Chicagoland in 2015 and has a 50% top-ten rate at this track across 14 career starts.
He just took over the championship lead by 1 point over our main driver Reddick and the motivation heading into a track where he’s a former winner is absolutely real. Having both Reddick as our main driver and Hamlin as our inside anchor means we’re collecting points from the two best drivers in the championship race every single week. If Reddick wins we get maximum main driver points. If Hamlin wins we still collect from our inside pick. Either way we win. He’s the anchor.
Inside Top 12 Pick No. 2: Christopher Bell (9th in points, 551 pts)
Bell won the 2025 All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway defeating Joey Logano in the closing laps. That makes him the most recent winner at this specific track and the only driver on the card with a victory here in the modern era of Cup racing.
Yes, the All-Star Race was a shorter exhibition event with different procedures. But the track surface, the corner profiles, the uphill backstretch, and the overall character of the racing are identical. The setup knowledge Bell and the No. 20 JGR team gained from winning here last year is genuinely valuable at a track where nobody else in the field has points race data to rely on.
His wrist has fully healed from the Michigan injury and he’s had several strong results recently including a second at Chicagoland behind Briscoe. At +500 for the defending North Wilkesboro winner with full JGR short track setup support, the value is right. He’s on the card.
He’s on a streak of four straight top-five finishes showing the kind of consistency that makes him a genuinely reliable inside pick for total points. The No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet has been one of the fastest cars on intermediate ovals throughout 2026 and he’s led nearly 300 laps on the season. He’s still looking for his first win of the 2026 season and a track where he’s finished second twice in a row feels like a very strong candidate for the breakthrough. He’s on the card.
Outside Top 12 Pick No. 1: Joey Logano (17th in points, 438 pts)
Logano won the 2024 All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro which gives him the second-most-recent victory at this specific track behind Bell. He is the only driver outside the top 12 with a North Wilkesboro win in the modern era and that fact alone makes him the most compelling outside pick on the entire board this week.
Team Penske has a strong short track program and Logano’s veteran racecraft on tight ovals is among the best in the garage. He’s 17th in the standings which means his price will be generous for a driver with a genuine win at this exact track two years ago. Blaney winning at Atlanta in the Penske Ford last week also tells you the team’s equipment is performing at a high level right now across the entire organization. At +1200 for a former North Wilkesboro winner the value is outstanding. He’s the most confident outside pick on the card.
Outside Top 12 Pick No. 2: Bubba Wallace (13th in points, 493 pts)
Wallace is right on the edge of the top 12 at 13th with 493 points and every single result matters for his playoff positioning from this point forward. The 23XI Racing Toyota has been competitive at a variety of track types all season and Wallace benefits directly from the setup data and manufacturer alliance with our main driver Reddick.
At a short track where nobody has previous points race data, the teams with the strongest organizational depth tend to perform best because they can adapt their setup more quickly than smaller operations. Having both Reddick as our main driver and Wallace as an outside pick gives us coverage across both 23XI Racing cars and maximizes our exposure to whatever setup breakthroughs the team finds in Saturday practice. At +2200 the value is right for a driver with playoff urgency and strong teammate support.
Outside Top 12 Pick No. 3: Brad Keselowski (19th in points, 403 pts)
RFK Racing has two historical North Wilkesboro wins as an organization which is a small piece of institutional knowledge that matters when you’re setting up a car for a track with no modern data. Keselowski’s aggressive short track racecraft has been one of the defining characteristics of his career and a 0.625-mile oval with 450 laps is exactly the kind of race where his instincts and experience show up.
He’s 19th in the standings and fighting for his playoff life which adds real urgency to every result from this point forward. The Predictem analysts have highlighted Keselowski at multiple recent races and his form on ovals of this size has been consistently competitive throughout 2026. At +2500 from outside the top 12 with a team that has historical wins at this track, the value is there.
Dark Horses Worth Watching
Kyle Larson (+500) — Won the 2023 All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro. Inside the top 12 at 6th. He’s the third of the three modern era North Wilkesboro winners alongside Bell and Logano. Still searching for his first win of 2026 and this track could be where it finally happens. If you want to swap him in for one of our inside picks the credentials absolutely support it.
Ryan Blaney (+500) — Won at Atlanta last week for his second victory of the season. Has finished in the top ten in eight straight races. Inside the top 12 at 3rd. The momentum is real and Team Penske’s short track program is clearly in a good place right now.
Carson Hocevar (+3300) — One of the most aggressive short track runners in the series this year. His style either wins the race or ends in contact and at North Wilkesboro that aggression could pay off or cost him. The upside is genuinely massive at +3300 from inside the top 12.
Ross Chastain (+4000) — Outside the top 12 at 20th. His aggressive short track style could thrive at a tight 0.625-mile oval where bold moves in traffic are rewarded. At +4000 the upside is worth noting even if the consistency concerns remain.
Drivers I'm Steering Clear Of
Shane Van Gisbergen — His oval learning curve has been the story all season and a 0.625-mile short track with 450 laps is one of the most difficult challenges for any driver without extensive American short track experience. North Wilkesboro rewards corner entry precision and tire management knowledge that takes years to develop.
Carson Hocevar at his current price — Already mentioned as a dark horse because the talent is real but the same aggression that produces highlight-reel moments has also cost him multiple finishes this season. At North Wilkesboro where the track punishes contact, that risk is amplified.
Daniel Suarez — Inside the top 12 at 11th but short tracks have not been his strongest venue throughout his Cup career. At this price there’s better value elsewhere on the board.
AJ Allmendinger — Listed at +2500 but his best results this season have come on road courses rather than short tracks. North Wilkesboro’s unique character doesn’t play to the same strengths that made him successful at Watkins Glen and Sonoma.
