Jack Link’s 500 Recap: Hocevar Makes History at the Big One’s Biggest Party

Carson Hocevar wins his first career Cup Series race at Talladega in one of the most popular victories of the 2026 season.

Hey race fans, welcome back to Driving on Marbles! What an absolutely wild Sunday afternoon at Talladega Superspeedway.

If you watched this one from start to finish I genuinely don’t know how your nerves held up because this race had everything. A 26-car Big One. Multiple lead changes. Small teams running at the front. And a first-time winner who has been one of the best stories of the entire 2026 season finally getting the result his talent deserves.

Carson Hocevar won the Jack Link’s 500 at Talladega Superspeedway for his first career NASCAR Cup Series victory in just his 91st start. The kid who has been flying all season long for Spire Motorsports finally got to do a victory lap at one of the most iconic venues in all of motorsport.

It was a brilliant race and an incredibly popular win and if you weren’t cheering at the finish line you might want to check your pulse.

NASCAR Talladega 2026: My Picks, Best Bets & Pool Lineup for the Jack Link’s 500

Hey race rans, welcome back to Driving on Marbles! It’s Talladega week and I’m going to be completely straight with you right from the start. This is the one race weekend on the entire schedule where I throw most of the regular playbook out the window and rebuild the card from scratch.

Before we get into the picks, let’s quickly talk about how Kansas went last week. It was honestly one of our best pool weeks of the season overall.

Hamlin fourth, Larson second, and Briscoe absolutely delivering with a third-place finish from the outside tier. The only real hurt was Bell leading 47 laps and then getting caught up in the overtime contact and spinning to 20th. That stung badly because the car was right where we needed it to be.

Chastain was quiet again in 28th which is three weeks in a row without a result from that dart slot. That changes this week and I’ll explain exactly why below.

Now. Talladega.

The Jack Link’s 500 runs 188 laps around the 2.66-mile superspeedway with 33-degree banking, the steepest in all of NASCAR. This is a pure draft race where the best driver at Bristol can get wiped out in the Big One on Lap 12 and a driver who’s been completely invisible for six weeks can find himself leading with two laps to go. There has been no multiple-time winner at Talladega from 2022 right through to now. Think about that for a second. Ten different drivers in ten straight races. The chalk gets crushed here more than anywhere else on the schedule and the picks process has to completely reflect that reality.

And this week we’re doing something a little different with the card structure. Because the pool rules allow up to three drivers from inside the top 12 including Bell, I can go as few as zero additional inside picks and fill the rest of the card with outside top 12 drivers. At Talladega specifically, going heavy on the longshots is actually the smart play. So this week we’re rolling with Bell, one inside top 12 pick, and four drivers from outside the top 12. More darts, more upside, more Talladega energy.

Hey race fans, welcome back to Driving on Marbles! Happy Wednesday and welcome to one of the most unpredictable race weekends on the entire NASCAR calendar.

The Cup Series is heading to Talladega Superspeedway this Sunday for the Jack Link’s 500 and everything changes at Talladega. I mean everything.

The drivers who have dominated the past several weeks at Bristol and Kansas become almost irrelevant. The strategy is completely different. The chaos is completely different. And the cast of characters who tend to show up at the front of a Talladega race is completely different from anything we’ve seen in recent weeks.

Talladega Superspeedway is the longest NASCAR oval at 2.66 miles with 33 degree banking in the turns, the steepest in NASCAR.

It’s a superspeedway draft race through and through, which means the Big One is always lurking, superspeedway specialists get their moment to shine, and a driver who’s been invisible for weeks can suddenly find themselves in Victory Lane just by being in the right place at the right lap.

That’s what makes Talladega so fascinating and so maddening in equal measure.

The Jack Link’s 500 runs 188 laps across 500 miles with Stage 1 ending at Lap 98, Stage 2 at Lap 143, and the final stage going to Lap 188.

Green flag drops at 3:00 PM ET this Sunday April 26 . Before we get into the rankings this week, a quick note: Talladega reshuffles the deck completely so don’t be surprised if the top of this list looks very different from recent weeks. That’s just the nature of superspeedway racing.

AdventHealth 400 Recap: Reddick Does it Again in an Overtime Thriller at Kansas

Hey race fans, welcome back to Driving on Marbles! What a Sunday afternoon at Kansas Speedway.

If you were watching this one I genuinely don’t know how you kept your heart rate under control in the final ten laps because that race delivered about five different finishes in the space of twenty minutes and somehow Tyler Reddick came out on top through all of it.

Five wins in nine races. Let’s just sit with that for a second. Reddick is the first driver since Dale Earnhardt in 1987 to win five of the first nine races of a season, and only the fourth driver to accomplish that feat at all, joining Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough, and Earnhardt.

The man is on a different planet right now and honestly it’s one of the most remarkable things I’ve watched in years of following this sport.

Hey race fans, welcome back to Driving on Marbles! It’s finally intermediate oval week and honestly after back-to-back short tracks at Martinsville and Bristol over the past few weeks I couldn’t be more ready for the change of scenery.

The Cup Series heads to Kansas Speedway this Sunday for the AdventHealth 400 and the whole vibe of race week shifts completely. We’re trading door-to-door contact and six-inch walls for clean air, tire conservation, and lap after lap of high-speed flowing oval racing at 1.5 miles. Kansas is one of my favourite race weekends of the season because the strategy plays out so clearly and the data tells you so much about who’s going to be fast before the green flag even drops.
