NASCAR San Diego 2026: My Picks, Best Bets & Pool Lineup for the Anduril 250

Hey race fans, welcome back to Driving on Marbles! This is genuinely one of the most unique race weeks in the entire history of NASCAR and I’ve been looking forward to writing this picks post all season.

Let’s get into this week’s picks post.

The Cup Series heads to Naval Base Coronado in San Diego this Sunday for the inaugural Anduril 250

There is absolutely nothing on the schedule that compares to what we’re about to see. This is the first time a NASCAR race has ever been held at a military base.

The Qualcomm Circuit is a 3.4-mile, 16-turn street course built on the roads and airfield infrastructure of an active naval installation.

The race is 75 laps across 255 miles and the green flag drops at 4:00 PM ET on Amazon Prime Video.

The track is flat with very little elevation change, which puts a premium on braking performance, acceleration, and track position. The surface is made up of standard asphalt and concrete sections rather than purpose-built racing pavement, meaning grip levels can vary significantly throughout the lap.

Nobody has ever raced here before. No notebook. No track history. No data from previous seasons to lean on. That makes this one of the most unpredictable races of the entire 2026 season and the picks process has to reflect that reality completely.

Quick recap of Pocono last week.

Hamlin won again for his third consecutive victory, his 64th career win which moves him past Kyle Busch for sole possession of ninth on the all-time list. His eighth career Pocono victory.

Bell led the race on a bold fuel-saving strategy before Hamlin drove past him with five laps to go and the car ran out of gas, finishing 26th. Genuinely heartbreaking. Larson finished fifth which was a strong inside pick result and Erik Jones delivered a sixth at +3500 which was outstanding outside value. Logano finished 34th which was the miss on the card.

This week everything changes. A brand new street course means road course specialists are the only drivers worth trusting and we’ve built the card accordingly. Let’s get into it.

My Main Man: Christopher Bell (10th in points, 421 pts)

You all know the deal. Bell is my driver for the first half of the season and I’m locked in on him again this week. The fractured wrist from Michigan is still a factor and Pocono’s fuel gamble didn’t go his way last week but the road course ability is genuinely strong.

He finished second at Watkins Glen last year and third at COTA, both road courses where his car control and natural instincts showed up in a big way. JGR has been one of the strongest road course organizations in the Gen 7 era and Bell benefits from setup data shared with Hamlin, Gibbs, and Briscoe across the Toyota camp.

At a brand new street course where nobody has any track history, the drivers who adapt quickest to unfamiliar layouts tend to be the ones with the most natural road course feel. Bell is one of those drivers. The market has him around +2500 this week which is a reasonable price for a driver with his road course credentials at an inaugural event where anything can happen. He’s my driver and we ride together. No exceptions.

Inside Top 12 Pick: Tyler Reddick (1st in points, 704 pts, 5 wins)

One inside top 12 pick alongside Bell this week and it’s the championship leader with the best road course record of any driver currently inside the top 12.

Four of Reddick’s 13 career Cup Series wins have come on road courses. That’s a 31% road course win rate which is the highest of any inside top 12 driver on the card. He won at COTA earlier this season and has been consistently excellent on road and street courses throughout his Cup career.

The market has him at +850 this week which is outstanding value for a five-time 2026 winner with the best road course win percentage of any championship contender.

At a brand new street course where nobody has previous data to rely on, the best overall road course driver inside the top 12 is the safest bet for stage points and a strong finishing position. Reddick fits that description perfectly. He’s the anchor.

Outside Top 12 Pick No. 1: Shane Van Gisbergen (14th in points, 361 pts, 1 win)

SVG is the massive favorite at -160 on DraftKings, more than 800 points shorter than anyone else on the board. His seven career Cup Series road course wins are the most of any active driver and the gap between him and the rest of the field on this track type is the widest in the sport.

At a brand new street course where nobody has any track history, SVG’s natural street racing instincts from his career in Australian Supercars give him a genuine competitive advantage over the entire field. He grew up racing on street courses.

This is his natural environment in a way it simply isn’t for drivers who’ve spent their entire careers on ovals. He won Watkins Glen, he won at COTA, and he dominated five of six road courses in 2025.

Yes, -160 is a short price. But in a pool format where stage points and finishing position both matter, having the most dominant road course driver in NASCAR history on your card at a street course is not optional. He’s on the card.

Outside Top 12 Pick No. 2: Connor Zilisch (outside top 20 in standings, +700)

Zilisch is the clear second favorite behind SVG at +700 on FanDuel and the case for him at a street course is genuinely compelling.

He’s arguably the second-best road course driver in the Cup Series right now and his Trackhouse Racing connection means he directly benefits from SVG’s street course setup knowledge and data.

He won back-to-back O’Reilly Series races at Watkins Glen and finished 14th at COTA after fighting back from outside the top 30 twice.

The raw talent on circuits with braking zones and tight corners is undeniable.

At a brand new track where nobody has any advantage in terms of previous laps, the drivers with the most natural street course feel are going to be the ones who adapt fastest in practice and carry that into qualifying and the race. Zilisch is one of those drivers. At +700 he’s a genuine podium threat and the stage points upside is real. He’s on the card.

Outside Top 12 Pick No. 3: AJ Allmendinger (21st in points, 301 pts)

All three of Allmendinger’s career Cup Series wins have come on road courses. That’s a 100% road course win rate in the Cup Series. He won at Watkins Glen in 2014 and the Charlotte Roval in 2023 and has been one of the most consistently undervalued road course picks on the board all season.

He finished seventh at Watkins Glen earlier this year and Kaulig Racing’s road course setup has been one of the best in the garage for several seasons running. At a street course where natural road racing instincts matter more than any team-specific data, a driver with three career road course wins and a proven ability to punch above his weight at non-oval tracks is exactly the kind of pick we want on the outside tier.

At +3000 the price doesn’t reflect his genuine credentials and the value is outstanding. He’s been one of our most consistent road course picks all season and this week should be no different.

Outside Top 12 Pick No. 4: Michael McDowell (20th in points, 306 pts)

This is the pick that multiple analysts have specifically highlighted for this weekend and the case is built around McDowell’s road course racecraft and his trending form at non-oval venues.

Predictem specifically highlights McDowell as one of their headline picks for the Anduril 250, noting his trending form at road courses and his veteran racecraft at technical circuits. RotoWire identifies McDowell as a top fantasy choice this week, specifically noting he has been trending up at road courses all season and his No. 71 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet should be a strong choice at Naval Base Coronado.

He finished second at Watkins Glen earlier this season showing genuine top-tier road course pace. At a brand new street course where experience and adaptability matter more than raw speed, McDowell’s veteran instincts and proven road course ability make him a genuinely compelling value play. At +4000 the upside is significant. He’s the value dart of the week.

Dark Horses Worth Watching

Ty Gibbs (+1400) — SportsLine has him at +1400 as the fourth favorite on FanDuel. Predictem specifically backs Gibbs as one of their three headline picks for the inaugural street course race. He’s absolutely worth watching at a brand new circuit where JGR’s road course data is a genuine advantage.

Erik Jones (+4000) — He’s been on a four-race streak of 13th or better and finished sixth at Pocono last week. Legacy Motor Club has been quietly impressive on road courses and at +4000 from outside the top 12 he’s a genuine dark horse dart.

Ross Chastain (+5000) — The Trackhouse Racing connection to SVG’s road course data is a genuine advantage at a brand new circuit. He drove from 24th to eighth at Pocono last week showing he’s capable of fighting through the field. At +5000 from outside the top 12 he’s worth a small look.

Drivers I'm Steering Clear Of

Denny Hamlin — Three consecutive wins and the hottest driver in NASCAR right now but his road course form has historically been inconsistent. He finished 20th or worse in three of the last four Watkins Glen races and street courses demand a very different skill set from the ovals where he’s been dominant. The win streak has been built on oval tracks and this venue is the opposite of that.

Kyle Larson — His road course average across 24 Gen 7 starts is the worst among the road course wins club. The recent Watkins Glen results (26th, 12th, 39th since his 2022 win) are a genuine concern and a brand new street course introduces even more uncertainty. At his current price there’s better road course value elsewhere.

Ryan Blaney — Strong overall season but road courses have not been where Team Penske consistently excels and a brand new street course with no data to lean on adds risk that isn’t priced into his odds.

Carson Hocevar — Outstanding season but street course racing demands very specific experience and racecraft that he’s still developing at the Cup level. The organizational gap between Spire Motorsports and the established road course programs is genuinely significant at this track type.

That's the card for the inaugural Anduril 250

This is a week where the road course specialists take over completely and the drivers who’ve spent their careers on ovals are genuinely at a disadvantage.

Bell as our main driver with strong road course credentials and JGR data behind him. Reddick as the single inside pick with the best road course win rate of any championship contender. SVG as the dominant favorite who grew up racing on street courses and has seven Cup road course wins. Zilisch as the exciting second Trackhouse pick with genuine podium potential. Allmendinger as the three-time road course winner the market keeps undervaluing. And McDowell as the trending value play backed by multiple experts this weekend.

One final thought before Sunday.

This is a brand new circuit with no track history for any driver and the surface is standard asphalt and concrete rather than purpose-built racing pavement. Practice is going to be absolutely crucial for understanding grip levels and braking points.

Green flag drops at 4:00 PM ET on Amazon Prime Video this Sunday. I’ll be back after the checkered flag with the full race recap and a breakdown of how the card held up at one of the most unique races in NASCAR history. See you then everyone!
